Argyle pink diamonds offer a vibrancy and spectrum of colour not seen in any other natural diamonds. Their reputation for rarity, beauty and luxury makes them the most highly sought-after diamond by collectors, investors and jewellers across the globe.

Argyle Pink Diamonds

Western Australia’s East Kimberley region is home to the Rio Tinto owned Argyle Diamond Mine and is the fitting birthplace of Argyle pink diamonds. The Argyle Mine currently produces 90 percent of the world’s pink diamonds. The pinks are extremely scarce representing much less than 0.1% of the total diamond production of the Argyle Mine.

Rohan Jewellers is proud to be an Argyle Pink Diamond Select Atelier, working closely with Argyle as one of a select few jewellers worldwide, entrusted with crafting bespoke pink diamond jewellery. To own an Argyle pink diamond is to own a piece of Australian history, and an heirloom to be passed through generations.

The Argyle Diamond Mine

DISCOVER

Since 1983, Argyle Diamonds has mined from this remote East Kimberly region, the world’s most exquisite natural coloured gems. Prior to the 1980s, production of pink diamonds had been sporadic, and limited to international mines.

Unearthing these treasures, formed at a depth of over 160 kilometres below the earth’s surface, is a challenge both in size and complexity. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, the Argyle underground mine comprises an intricate network which comprises two underground crushers and around 40 kilometres of tunnels, facilitating the access of diamonds from the furthest reaches of the earth.

It will take over a year and many careful hands for a rough Argyle pink diamond to journey from the mine to its final destination as a polished gem.

The Argyle Diamond Mine Closure

The Argyle Diamond Mine is expected to reach its end of mine life in 2020 and cease production of pink diamonds. The mine has produced 825 million carats over 40 years and in its final year it is down to the last few teaspoons of top-tier gems. The allure of pink diamonds is intensifying as  the rare become rarer, and an appreciation of their value increases.
